A web search for Kids by librarians.  All of the sites listed have been reviewed by librarians to make certain they are site and have a brief description and reading level of the site.

*OneKey.com
- Partnering with Google, the site lists kid-safe sites and blocks inappropriate sites.
*RedZee.com
calls itself a "family-oriented site that restricts pornographic results" has a link that allows families to report any site that may not be family-oriented.
*Yahooligans
This is a searchable directory of Internet sites for kids appropriate for ages 7 through 12.  It also has fun pages with links to games, sports, news and other sites.  There are also teacher and parent sections at this site. 
Brain Boost
The no-search Search Engine.  It is a Question Answering Search Engine. 
Kid Safe Search Engines 
From Internet4Classrooms, this Memphis Public Schools site evaluates several search engines for student use.

BJ is now 17 years old.  He and his father have been compiling this site since 1995.  It is now on the Discovery Channel Web site.  It includes links to 695 sites on the Internet.  It also includes a weekly word list, sites for teachers and “Playtime” sites for students and other Discovery.com sites.

Searchable database of over 1000 outstanding Internet learning sites categorized by subject area, audience, and type.  A brief description of each site contains the date it was added and reviewed.  Each site is rated with up to 5 stars.
Education Resources for Kids and Teens
This "after school" site has links for teen learning, issues and exploring the internet.  (Site supported by the General Services Administration).

This site was developed and is maintained by the Federal Citizen Information Center. It provides links to Federal kids' sites along with some of the best kids' sites from other organizations all grouped by subject.
Kids Konnect
This site has both an alphabetized list and subject index.  It is maintained by educators at Kids Konnect for students and teachers.  Reference sites include Art, History and Science museums, periodicals and planetariums

Citing Your Sources

These sites allow you to input bibliographic information on your reference sources.  They will then format the text which you can copy and paste into Word or your word processing document.

Yahooligans Teachers' Guide:  Citing Sources
This site has examples of appropriate guidelines for citing sources by grade level (K-1, 2-3, 4-5 and 6-7-8). 
RapidCite   (interactive)
Produces "work cited" pages --- user enters appropriate information into the blank fields, saves information and exports it to Word.  If multiple entries are made, then it will be formatted and alphabetized automatically.   Good for MLA, APA and Chicago formats for print, electronic and AV resources. 
Slate Citation Machine   (interactive)
Part of the Landmark Project.  Template for citing books, articles, websites, etc.  Creates a citation that can be copied into a word processing document.
